Review of 2024 and Exciting Plans for 2025
As we close in on the end of 2024, it is time to review our progress through a year filled with innovation and impact. A highlight of our journey this year was the successful launch of the Trifecta of Professional Solar Training, designed for individuals aspiring to build a career in solar installations.
Bridging Knowledge Gaps in Solar Installation
Our research revealed that many solar installations in Zimbabwe were being carried out without adequate training. Cost and time away from work were major barriers preventing aspiring solar technicians from pursuing professional education.
To address these challenges, Green Solar Academy introduced the Trifecta of Professional Solar Training, a structured programme that combines accessibility, affordability, and industry relevance:
- Solar Basics Course (1 day): Provides foundational solar industry knowledge.
- Off-Grid Technicians Course (170 hours, online): A self-paced, in-depth programme developed in collaboration with the German Solar Energy Society (DGS) and the University of Ethiopia. It includes self-assessments and concludes with an online exam.
- Roof Mounting Practical Course (1 day): Hands-on training to consolidate theoretical knowledge and master rooftop installations.
Participants earn certifications at each stage, culminating in a final certificate of competency upon completing all three modules.
Celebrating Success in 2024
This year, we proudly trained 91 individuals through the Solar Basics Course. Of these, one-third advanced to the Off-Grid Technicians Course. November saw the completion of our first PV Roof Mounting Practical Course, where participants demonstrated the skills and knowledge they gained through the Trifecta programme.

Understanding the economic challenges many face, we ensured that each module of the Trifecta could be taken independently, making professional training more accessible to all.
